Steven Laws
Steven Laws Sr., also known artistically as Imp the Great, is a multifaceted hip hop artist, songwriter, producer, and filmmaker with decades of experience in creative expression. With a deep love for rhythm, storytelling, and teaching, Steven brings both lived experience and artistic discipline to the classroom. He has written, directed, and produced documentaries, web series, and music projects, blending real-life struggles and triumphs into powerful artistic statements.
Steven has worked with students of all ages and previously developed a curriculum called “Computer Introductions,” which helped elementary students learn technology fundamentals through storytelling and fun. His current focus is on inspiring the next generation of lyricists and beatmakers by helping them explore their voices, express themselves confidently, and learn how to shape ideas into impactful songs.
Whether guiding students through freestyle exercises, helping them write meaningful verses, or introducing them to basic music production, Steven keeps each session engaging, affirming, and culturally relevant. His goal is to create a space where kids can grow artistically and personally—while having a lot of fun in the process.
Passionate about self-expression and resilience, Steven sees hip hop not just as music, but as a tool for growth, community, and empowerment. His classes are high-energy, inclusive, and focused on helping each student feel heard.
